Therapy Dogs
In the bustling heart of Calgary, finding a moment of true calm can be a challenge. At our clinic, we believe that healing doesn't just happen through conversation—it happens through connection. That’s why we’re integrating a therapy dog into our practice to help our clients feel grounded, safe, and supported from the moment they walk through the door. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, or PTSD, the presence of a therapy dog offers unique clinical benefits that traditional "talk therapy" alone sometimes can't reach including reducing physiological stress, acting as a social lubricant and supporting emotional regulation. A landmark study published in Frontiers in Psychology demonstrated that even short-term interactions with therapy dogs significantly reduce self-reported anxiety and improve cardiovascular health markers. Furthermore, research from the Human-Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) indicates that 80% of mental health clients reported a reduction in loneliness after working with a therapy animal.
Meet Roo
Roo is our friendly Tibetan Terrier therapy dog in training, bringing comfort and a warm presence to our psychology clinic in Alberta. With his gentle personality and curious spirit, Roo is learning how to support clients during therapy sessions and promote a calm, welcoming environment. From time to time, you may see Roo around the clinic offering a wag and a smile. While many clients enjoy the soothing benefits of a therapy dog’s companionship, we understand that not everyone prefers animal-assisted sessions—simply let us know if you’d like your visits to be Roo‑free.
